I’m often surprised at some of the pieces of music I only get to hear in recordings. It’s seems more like a secret that I get to keep all to myself. However, in this case I feel compelled to share my interest in a Robert Starer brass quintet.
My infatuation with Evanescence by Robert Starer started while I was an undergraduate student. It peaked my interest specifically because of it’s harmonic moments and timber shifts. The harmony crosses into commercial and jazz language, which offers an entry point for even the most harden critic of modern music. I think this piece is a gem and should be performed more often.
To learn more about Robert Starer follow the link to his website or read “Robert Starer, 77, Composer of Ballets and Operas” APRIL 24, 2001 for the New York Times.
This is a very enjoyable work. Thanks for posting.
